Mission Statement
To provide financial or other assistance to individuals or families in time of need or certain key occasions or events in life such as health issues, education, matrimony, unemployment etc so that they can sustain in life and society they live in and maintain their human dignity. Such financial or other assistance can be on a one off or on a regular basis depending on case to case basis and also depending upon Charity’s resources.
To co-operate and provide financial or other assistance to organizations and charities having similar aims and objects in particular and working for the benefit of humankind in general.
Economic upliftment
Our purpose is to create a more resilient and compassionate society by supporting those who are most vulnerable. We offer a lifeline to individuals and families during pivotal moments in their lives—providing financial aid and other resources for education, healthcare, and critical life events like matrimony or job loss. Our goal is not just to provide a temporary fix, but to empower people to sustain themselves and maintain their human dignity. The support we provide can be a one-time grant or a consistent helping hand, all dependent on the specific needs of each situation and our resources.
Collaboration is key to our mission. We actively partner with other non-profits and charities that have similar goals, as we believe that by working together, we can achieve more. This spirit of cooperation allows us to better serve humankind and ensure no one is left behind.
Water Project
We are dedicated to providing sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water in communities around the world. By building wells and implementing water projects, we empower families, improve health, and create a foundation for a brighter future.
We believe that clean water is a fundamental human right. Our charity works directly with local partners in developing countries to provide long-term, sustainable water and sanitation solutions. With your support, we can transform lives, reduce disease, and restore hope, one community at a time.
Eye Activities
We are a small charity dedicated to transforming lives in Tanzania by providing essential eye care services. Many people in rural communities lack access to basic eye health, leading to preventable blindness and significant hardship. Our mission is to fill this gap by offering vital services directly to those who need them most.
Our dedicated team provides:
Cataract Surgery: Restoring sight to individuals who have lost their vision due to cataracts, enabling them to return to work and live independently.
Glaucoma Screening: Early detection and treatment of glaucoma to prevent irreversible vision loss.
Comprehensive Eye Testing: Providing essential eye exams and prescription glasses to improve quality of life and opportunities for children and adults.
By focusing our efforts on these critical services, we are not just treating eyes—we are restoring hope and building a brighter future for the people of Tanzania.
Education
Education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. We are a small non-profit charity dedicated to providing vital educational support to primary school students in developing countries. We believe that every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
Our mission goes beyond just a classroom. By focusing on primary education, we lay the groundwork for a lifetime of learning. We provide essential resources like textbooks and school supplies, support local teachers with training and development, and create safe, welcoming learning environments.
Through our work, we are empowering a new generation with the skills and knowledge they need to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities. Join us in our mission to make a lasting impact, one student at a time.
A Legacy of Care
The Dowites of 1986 Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Project at Civil Hospital Karachi
The journey towards modern, specialized pediatric care in Karachi reached a major milestone with the launch of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the historic Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). This vital initiative was spearheaded by the dedicated alumni of the Dow Medical College Class of 1986 (Dowites of 1986), who took on the monumental task of establishing a much-needed comprehensive Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
A Necessary Intervention in a Historic Setting
This ambitious project is set within the walls of the Dr. Ruth K.M. Pfau, Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), one of Pakistan's oldest and most significant tertiary care facilities. Founded in 1898, Civil Hospital Karachi has served as a primary healthcare provider for the city and surrounding provinces for over a century, particularly for the underprivileged population. The hospital remains a vital institution, dealing with an immense patient load and providing critical services across numerous specialties.
The need for a dedicated, high-tech intensive care unit for children and newborns at CHK is underscored by the sobering statistics of early childhood mortality in the region. Pakistan continues to face one of the highest neonatal mortality rates globally. In a study focused on Karachi, the causes of neonatal death often point to preventable conditions such as perinatal asphyxia, preterm birth complications, and infections. Even in one squatter settlement of Karachi, a 2010 study found the neonatal mortality rate to be 27 deaths per 1,000 live births. These numbers highlight a profound and urgent need for state-of-the-art facilities and specialized critical care to give vulnerable newborns and children a fighting chance.
The Project Milestone
In a remarkable act of professional and philanthropic dedication, the Dowites of 1986 committed to addressing this crisis. Their vision culminated in the first phase of the project: the inauguration of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on January 1, 2013. This seven-bedded unit is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and technology, immediately providing a lifeline for critically ill children in a facility where such high-level care was previously scarce. The establishment of this PICU marks a powerful transition, transforming the scope of pediatric services available at Civil Hospital Karachi and standing as a testament to the enduring commitment of the Dow Medical College alumni to their alma mater and the health of their community.
